Looking on & Participating in

I have to admit that it is my first time to be so exited and crazy during a festival. Enjoying Notting Hill carnival, I deeply thought about the reason. Obviously, people joining in festivals are passive in china, whereas that in London are active.

Once comparing Bank Holiday with Lantern Festival, the nature of the phenomena will emerge as soon. Although the same scale of marches and equal number of participants exist in China, concept of participating is different. In our country, when the peak of a holiday comes, citizens do not perform by themselves but go to a central point for watching performances and plays. after that they just go home with a calm and peaceful mood as if they did not join them. By contrast, in Notting Hill, despite unnecessary plays and marches, audients also sing, dance even drug in groups and enjoy themselves. It seems that leading actors are audients, not the actors dressing exaggerated clothes in the moving trucks.

Two issues i thought of from a comedy

Along with Soyin, Tony and Vivi, I watched a comedy- a tale of two dreamers this evening. I cannot help associating the humorous play with another musical play and Chinese comedy. At the same time, I analysed the two following issues.

One of them has something to do with box office earnings. Obviously, compared with the musical drama last week, the humorous play today has different feature. The barrier to keep audients beyond the national theatre square is the plot of a tale of two dreamers is hard to understand. However, Red Hook, a musical play performed last week provided fantastic visual experience and an understandable plot. No wonder tickets sale of musical plays is better than comedies.

The other is about the difference between typical Chinese humor and representative British humor. In my opinion, western humor tends to use actions and onomatopoeic words to achieve the purpose of making audiences laugh. For example, Chaplin is famous for his antics, including body language and face expression, which make viewers to laugh and tear. Whereas Chinese-style humor focuses on the content of dialogues. Take a cross-talk for example, a talker are used to cooperating with a respondent to tell a funny story to audients and make individuals pleasant and to laugh.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with going overseas for university study?

One of sweeping trends is to go overseas for university study in present society over the world. At the same time, individuals have to admit that studying abroad is regarded as a two-edged sword. Therefore, the issue has been debated by two parties, supporters and opponents. The formers believe that advantages going overseas brings are definitely more than the disadvantages, whereas the later consider it is not an angle but an evil. In my opinion, I will compare both the strengths and the weaknesses to justify.

On the one hand, it sounds reasonable that international students can benefit from the experience studying abroad. First of all, it is manifest that going overseas for study is a sensible investment. Provided that the person makes an effort to learn knowledge and skills, the profit they will earn from their jobs probably seems further more than the fund they allocated to the academic career.

Moreover, the experience studying and living in a foreign country could help graduated students to gain more employment opportunities. Generally speaking, a developed education system, policy and multicultural background tend to ensure increasingly competitive advantages for international students.

Last but not least, the choice of study overseas seems helpful to enrich their experience and broaden their horizons. Indeed, it is a interesting and helpful progress from creating conflicts between two kinds of culture, motherlands’ culture and foreign culture, to synthesizing them perfectly.

On the other hand, a latest research reveals that learning in a foreign country can create not only benefit but also problems and puzzles. One reasonable cause is study efficiency becomes dramatic low, which is caused by distribution of energy and time. They have to admit living and studying in a different culture is not so convenient as that in their own culture.

Another reason why individuals oppose the choice of studying in a different culture is these difficulties lead to problems of psychological health sometimes in the special situation. Undoubtedly, the serious cultural shock from one county to another has detrimental influence on development of their psychological health and poses a severe threat to their common daily life.

Given the more advantages than the disadvantages, I concede that going overseas for university study is an exciting prospect for students. No wonder studying abroad becomes increasingly popular.
